There are seven routes to Kilimanjaro: SIX routes up Kilimanjaro and TWO down.
(Yeah, it sounds like eight lanes. But one of the uphill trails can also be used for downhill, so there’s really only seven lanes.)

Many of these trails come together after a few days of hiking and share the same trails from the past few days.

As a result, there are only three specific routes from the base of Kibo, the main peak, to the rim of Kilimanjaro crater.
(One of these, the Western Offensive Route, is a challenging and dangerous route and not much used, only two remain.)

The Kilimanjaro hiking trail approaches the mountain from different sides and is very different in length, difficulty, traffic and other aspects.
